Meet Rabbi Goodman

Talk to anyone in this area and they will remember Rabbi Goodman. Remember how he helped them study Torah and guided them through their Bar-Mitzvah. He has helped guide the Jewish community through his many years of service. His name speaks simply and elegantly of his character. He is a good man.

Born June 19th, 1930 in Brooklyn, Rabbi Goodman was schooled at Yeshiva & Mesivta Torah Vodaath and graduated high school in 1949. He attended Yeshiva College, earning a B.A in 1953 and then went on to earn a Masters Degree from Yeshiva University in 1960.

Rabbi Goodman started his career as a Hebrew teacher in Brooklyn in 1953. In 1955, he moved to Sullivan County to become the Rabbi of Congregation Ohave & Sholem. At the same time, Rabbi Goodman starting volunteering his time to be a teacher at the Hebrew Day School. This soon grew until in 1958, Rabbi Goodman became Principal of the school.

Rabbi Goodman has had sermons published in the Manual of the Rabbinical Council of America and has been named "Man of the Year" by the Kiwanis Club. His presence provides the spiritual backbone that keeps the school going and growing.

A Message from the Principal

A Message from Rabbi Menachem Fruchter  Principal

Hebrew Day School provides a well-rounded, current, dual curriculum for children, nursery through eighth grade. Our Objective is to inculcate in our children the religious values, morals, and principles of Traditional Judaism and to emphasize the broad spectrum of secular knowledge they may need to succeed in our modern society.

Our school is accredited by the Department of Education of the State of New York. We are a member in good standing of Torah Umesorah, the National Association of Hebrew Day Schools in the United States and Canada, as well as the Board of Jewish Education of Greater New York.

The Hebrew Day School faculty consists of highly qualified and dedicated educators. The general studies teachers are certified by the State of New York and selected from among dozens of applicants. They are devoted to the school's philosophy, well trained and experienced in both individual and group instruction.

The Judaic studies staff is chosen from the Hebrew teacher seminaries and institutions of higher Jewish learning. Moreover, they serve as living examples of involved Torah Jews. Their success is due in part to their selfless devotion to perpetuating Jewish knowledge and life.

Welcome to our school. We trust your children will enjoy a successful year, and the parents will enjoy a year of Nachas.
